Do I need an FR44 after a DUI?

Direct Answer

In Florida, yes — a DUI conviction requires an FR44 filing, not a standard SR22. Virginia also requires FR44 for DUI-related offenses. All other states use the standard SR22 for DUI convictions.

Florida DUI Requirements

If you received a DUI in Florida, the state requires you to file an FR44 certificate before your license can be reinstated. This is not optional — it is a legal prerequisite for getting your driving privileges back.

The FR44 mandates liability coverage of $100,000 per person / $300,000 per accident for bodily injury and $50,000 for property damage. You must maintain this coverage continuously for 3 years from your suspension date.

Virginia DUI Requirements

Virginia also uses the FR44 for DUI-related offenses, with slightly different coverage limits: $100,000/$200,000/$50,000. The filing period is 3 years from your license reinstatement date.

DUI in Other States

If your DUI occurred in any state other than Florida or Virginia, you will need a standard SR22 filing — not an FR44. We file SR22 certificates in 10 states: Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Missouri, Nevada, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
