My car is financed. Do I need an owner FR44 policy?
Yes. If you have a financed or leased vehicle, you need an owner FR44 policy — not non-owner. Your lender requires you to carry insurance on the vehicle, and the FR44 requirement adds enhanced liability limits on top of that. Your lender will also likely require comprehensive and collision coverage.
Why Non-Owner Won't Work
A non-owner FR44 policy provides liability coverage when you drive vehicles you don't own. It does not cover a specific vehicle. Since your financed car needs to be insured — your lender requires it — you need an owner policy that names the vehicle and satisfies both the lender's requirements and the FR44 filing.
What Your Lender Requires
Most auto lenders require:
- Liability coverage meeting state minimums (FR44 exceeds these, so you're covered)
- Comprehensive coverage
- Collision coverage
- The lender listed as lienholder on the policy
All of this can be included in your FR44 owner policy. We'll make sure the policy meets both the FR44 requirement and your lender's requirements — call (855) 678-6977.
