Can I add comprehensive and collision coverage to my FR44 policy?

Direct Answer

Yes. FR44 is a liability filing — it sets the minimum liability coverage you must carry. You can add comprehensive and collision coverage on top of that. If your vehicle is financed or leased, your lender likely requires comp and collision regardless of the FR44.

FR44 Sets a Floor, Not a Ceiling

The FR44 requirement mandates minimum liability coverage of $100,000/$300,000/$50,000. That covers damage and injuries you cause to others. It does not cover damage to your own vehicle — that's what comprehensive and collision do.

  • Comprehensive — Covers theft, vandalism, weather damage, animal strikes.
  • Collision — Covers damage to your vehicle from an accident, regardless of fault.

When You Should Add It

  • Financed or leased vehicle — Your lender almost certainly requires both comp and collision.
  • Vehicle has significant value — If you can't afford to replace the car out of pocket, comp and collision are worth carrying.
  • Older vehicle with low value — You may choose to skip comp/collision and save on premium. Your call.

Adding comp and collision increases your premium, but it's a separate decision from the FR44 requirement. We can quote both ways — call (855) 678-6977.
