What Do These Numbers Mean?
The liability limits shown (e.g., 25/50/25) represent thousands of dollars:
- First number: Bodily injury per person (e.g., $25,000)
- Second number: Bodily injury per accident total (e.g., $50,000)
- Third number: Property damage per accident (e.g., $25,000)
States That Use FR44 Instead of (or in addition to) SR22
Florida and Virginia use FR44 certificates for DUI-related violations. FR44 requires higher liability limits than standard SR22 requirements.
- Florida FR44: 100/300/50 liability limits
- Virginia FR44: 100/200/50 liability limits
- Virginia: Uses SR-22 for non-DUI violations and FR-44 after a DUI
States That Don't Require SR22
A small number of states handle financial responsibility requirements differently:
- New Hampshire: No mandatory auto insurance (but SR22 required after certain incidents)
